Bestway Wholesale began as a specialist Asian food store in West London in the early 1960s. More retail units followed and by the early 1970s the group had opened ten general food stores selling a convenience range of groceries and drinks. Bestway Wholesale moved into the wholesale business in 1976 when its first Cash & Carry warehouse was established in Acton, London. Bestway Wholesale trades from 62 warehouses under the Bestway and Batleys names and enjoys an 18% market share in the grocery wholesale sector. It offers over five and a half million square feet of selling space, a product line of over 25,000 items and serves 100,000 independent retailers, many of who provide 24 hours service to various communities throughout the country. Bestway employs over 4,500 people in the United Kingdom.
